Sua madre e suo padre lo chiamarono Michael, ma lui è più conosciuto come Mick.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">Nel 1996 Mick suonò la chitarra per la prima volta e immediatamente ne restò interessato, risparmiò la sua paga come venditore di giornali per qualche settimana (nelle settimane positive Mick guadagnava 40-50 pounds) e la vendette a un amico per </font><strong><font face="Times New Roman, serif">£</font></strong><font face="Times New Roman, serif">150. Soldi in mano Mick andò a Sport Connection e comprò l’ultima tuta da ginnastica uscita.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">Nel maggio 1998 la ragazza di Mick per il suo compleanno ricevette dal padre una chitarra. Mick casualmente prese la chitarra e da lì iniziò a suonare regolarmente.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">Alla fine del 1998 Mick e alcuni amici composero una band. Si chiamarono ‘Fever’, poi cambiarono idea e si trasformarono in ‘Smokescreen’, poiché l’atteggiamento del batterista era calmo e freddo.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">All’inizio del 1999 il batterista pensò anche che Mick non era abbastanza bravo come cantante, così suggerì con le migliori intenzioni e delicatezza che Mick aveva bisogno di un’insegnante di canto. Inizialmente Mick si arrabbiò, poi andò da Mr. Marchetti, un brillante insegnante di canto. Mick prese lezioni per la maggior parte dei 3-4 anni seguenti e ora canta davvero bene.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">Nel 2000 ‘Smokescreen’ sono un po’ differenti da come erano partiti. Mick e il chitarrista Jaz sono gli unici membri originali della band e vi si è aggiunto il batterista Chris; il batterista precedente è deceduto prematuramente in studio ascoltando Mick mentre cantava ‘Nessun Dorma’.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">A metà del 2001 un giorno il padre di Jaz suggerì che avrebbero dovuto prendere un manager. La band fu subito d’accordo. Alex Hamilton li tenne per i 2 anni in cui suonarono regolarmente, con personaggi quali Franz Ferdinand, Joseph Arthur, H2o e molti altri. Hanno anche lavorato con Brian McNeil a Gravity Studios, ed ebbero anche Eddi Reader come fan. Poi si sciolsero.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">Alla fine del 2003 Mick andò in una profonda depressione e si trasferì fuori da Glasgow verso Dundee, dove rimase fino a metà 2005. </font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">A metà 2006 tornò a Glasgow e ricevette una telefonata da un uomo di nome ‘Damian’, che gli chiese di andare nel Newcastle per cantare qualche canzone per Letrix, suo artista/scrittore Sony BGM. Così Mick, ora in combutta con Alex, caposquadra degli ‘Smokescreen’, andò in Newcastle. Cantò qualche canzone giusto qualche mese prima di tornare.</font></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm" align="center"><font face="Times New Roman, serif">A metà del 2007, dopo aver passato tanti anni a scrivere, con la paura di dimenticare tutto, Mick telefonò a Ged, il pianista/chitarrista/bassista/produttore/ingegnere, un buon tipo. Ad ogni modo Ged disse a Mick “Si, non c’è problema, vieni qui che registriamo qualcosa.” Mick accettò con gratitudine e si presentò puntualmente da Ged. Cash in hand Mick goes to Sports Connection and buys the latest Kappa track-suit. </strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>May 1998 Mick's girlfriend receives a guitar for her birthday from her Father. Mick casually picks up the guitar and starts to play regularly. </strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>Late 1998 Mick and some friends start a band. They call themselves the 'Fever' then change their mind and call themselves 'Smokescreen' because the drummer thought it was cool!</strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>circa 2000 Smokescreen are a little different from when they started. Mick and guitarist Jaz are the only original members and they are now joined by Chris on drums; the previous drummer coming to an untimely death when he died of shock whilst hearing Mick sing 'Nessun Dorma' in the studio one day. </strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>Mid 2001 Jaz's Father suggests one day that they should get a builders-goods salesman to manage them. They immediately agreed. Alex Hamilton had them playing King Tuts within no time, for the two years they were gigging regularly to sell out crowds, playing with acts such as Franz Ferdinand, Joseph Arthur, H2o, and many more. They also worked with Brian McNeil at Gravity Studios, and even had Eddi Reader as a fan. Then they split up. </strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>Late 2003 Mick goes into a deep depression and excorts himself out of Glasgow and up to Dundee, where he remained till Mid 2005. (more info on Mick's Dundee experience can be found in the aptly named "Dundee"). </strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>Mid 2006 Now back in Glasgow, Mick recieves a phone call from a man named 'Damian', who asks Mick to go to Newcastle and sing some songs for his Sony BMG artists/writers, Letrix. So Mick, now back in cahoots with former Smokescreen gaffer Alex (himself now a renowned music mogul) rides down to Newcastle. Mick sings a few songs over a few months before riding back. </strong></font></p> <p class="gtype01text" align="center"><font color="#2a2a2a" size="1" face="mono"><strong>Mid 2007 After spending countless years writing, and with the fear of forgetting everything, Mick phones Ged. Ged is a pianist/guitarist/bassist/producer/engineer and an all round good cat. Anyway Ged says to Mick " aye, no problem mate, bounce over and we'll record some stuff". Mick gratefully accepts and promptly bounces over to Geds.
